The Ramble

The Ramble
This is a partial view of the "Hers" master closet I designed for one of my favorite homes in The Ramble in Asheville NC. Dawn Carlton was the interior designer, and Carlton Architecture designed this most unique and beautiful home.

Why I do what I do...

Nothing makes me happier than a client who is excited about the new closet or closets we've just installed.  It's amazing what the intelligent placement of some rods and shelves and drawers can do for a person's sense of well-being.  Most people respond positively to order.  Being organized just feels good!  Especially in uncertain times when so much feels out of our control, we do have the power to control our personal space- to refine it, beautify it, organize it.  It took me many years to discover what I was created to do, what my gift to the world is- and this is it.  Thank you God for inspiring me to be of service in this way!  And thanks to all my clients, who are the reason I do what I do.

"The things we make, make us"

This quote is from a Jeep Grand Cherokee ad!  Great quote and worthy of reflection.
Just wanted to share.

For those of you who don't know me or know me well...

be sure to check out my informal resume at the bottom of the blog underneath my photo.  In my years in the closet business, I have always been an independent contractor and have represented just one company at a time.  As I got more experience, I realized I was more of a client advocate, not a company advocate.  Instead of being limited to selling one product line, I decided my clients deserved more options than one company could or wanted to provide.  So I now use several different closet and cabinetry companies, who are as passionate about quality and service as I am.  This is all about "custom" and being able to deliver what the homeowner, interior designer, architect or builder want.  Sometimes I work with the above who already have their own favorite cabinet maker or carpenter.  In cases like this, I consult in depth with the client and just do the design.  I also do space organization for the whole house, not just the closet.  Many of my clients think they have no room for anything, when in actuality, there's plenty of space in their home.  We have fun discovering it together!

"Some people dream of having a big swimming pool... with me, it's closets." -Audrey Hepburn

I confess:  I'm passionate about closets.  Well-designed, efficient, and therefore, beautiful closets.  Organized closets.  A place for everything and everything in its place closets.  Closets with seemingly miles of hanging space.  Closets with shelves and baskets and drawers... oh my!  Closets with slanted shelves for shoes, and cubbies to stack sweaters and sweats neatly.  Closets with a granite or custom cement topped island.  Closets in haberdashery-style cherry or mahogany veneer with wood framed seeded glass doors, fluted and crown molding, and rosettes.  Simple but elegant closets in modern, crisp, white melamine.  (Are you getting a visual here?  Have you started salivating yet?) Or, my personal fantasy, for my someday dream home here in Asheville NC, contemporary maple "Pure Bond" veneer cabinetry with frosted glass drawer and door fronts framed in brushed aluminum, and a hand-blown Chihuly-style or custom sea glass chandelier illuminating it all.  I'm passionate about the space you use several times a day. The space that can even set the tone for your day!  I'm excited about sharing my passion with you, which is what this blog is all about.  Enjoy!
